Is there anything required of artists in residence?
This program is in partnership with the Siena Art Institute, where Residents will be Visiting Artists for a day.
Residents will also participate in an Open Studio for one day at the Residency, and may have an opportunity to exhibit their work in the nearby city of Florence.
Resident artists are responsible for shipping away their work at the end of their residency. No Artworks should be left on site.

Each resident will have their own studio, bedroom and bath, but other facilities such as kitchen, dining, and living areas will be shared between the artists in residence.
Who is responsible for the care of the facilities?
The Woodman Artist Residency asks that artists care for their own workspace, and return it to its original condition at the end of their residency. Housekeeping will be provided every other week to change the linens, wash the floors, etc. Daily housekeeping will be the responsibility of residents.
What kind of facilities does Woodman Artist Residency have?
The home is situated in rural Tuscany and surrounded by beautiful vistas. Upon arrival, the residency host will help orient new artists to the home and surrounding area. The house consists of two separate studios, bedrooms, and bathrooms. The living room, dining room, and kitchen are communal spaces.
Studio Betty is a ceramics studio and is especially equipped for low fire earthenware including a kiln and a wheel. Studio George is a more general space suitable for a range of media.
An artist/technician is available to operate or teach the residents how to operate the facilities in Studio Betty and to assist both artists in finding necessary supplies and provide other art-related support.
How are artists selected?
Artists are nominated by a changing group of nominators. From these nominations, potential residents will be invited to apply. Their proposals will be reviewed by a jury who will decide who to invite to the residency.
Artists will be welcome to apply as individuals, as pairs of artists, or as couples. Once artists are invited, they will work with staff to identify a period that will work for them to visit within the next three years.
Can I bring a partner?
Residents may come by themselves or with a partner, who may or may not also be an artist. One small child may also be accommodated.
Do I purchase my own flight/travel to and from the residency?
